My wonderful husband Alan was a great dad to Alan 27, Gavin 20, and David 18. He passed away aged 60, in his seat at the Stadium of Light on 25th October 2008 seconds before the start of the Sunderland vs Newcastle derby match. His death was sudden and unexpected, leaving everyone shocked and devastated.
Alan lived his life to the full, loved football(and played till he was 40) enjoyed family life and especially holidays. We had so many wonderful times together, especially our recent holiday in Egypt (July 2008) - Thanks Tex! He was overjoyed when we moved into Victoria Terrace, we loved the house immediately, and we were hoping to spend many years here. Unfortunately it wasn't to be.
His funeral was attended by hundreds of relatives and friends, most wore their Sunderland or Newcastle shirts as requested. Alan was a mackem through and through but he also had many Newcastle supporter friends. Hundreds followed his coffin along the road from The Smiths Arms to Catchgate Methodist Chapel for the celebration of his life and then they returned to The Smiths Arms afterwards. I've never seen so many red & white and black & white shirts sitting side by side.
We will all miss him so much, both family, and his many friends alike.
Love you Alan.

His Smile
Though his smile is gone forever
Aand his hand you cannot touch.
You still have so many memories
of the one you loved so much.
His memory is your keepsake
with which you'll never part.
God has him in his keeping,
You have him in your heart.
I first met Alan in 2002 when myself and Mary won a holiday to Tenirife with BT, he was such a gentle person and so caring and someone who you will never forget, i will always remeber the time me sitting on the beach as it was after mid-night and reallly cold, Mary , Alan and my ex drinking red wine and skinny dipping in the sea, it was such a laugh and that il never forget.
